Coe Blanks Brandywine 9-0

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Penn State Brandywine was limited to six singles by a trio of Coe College pitchers as the Lions were dealt a 9-0 defeat Sunday morning at the RussMatt Baseball Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.

In addition to collecting six hits, Brandywine batters worked four bases on balls, but the Lions left eight runners stranded on base during the contest. Two men were left in scoring position in the fifth and despite two base hits in the eighth, the Lions could not push a run across.

The Kohawks plated single runs in the first, seventh and eighth innings, while taking advantage of two Brandywine errors to push three runs across in the second frame against Lions' starting pitcher Joey Buoni (Chester Heights, Pa./Salesianum). Brandywine committed five miscues in the field overall, yielding three unearned runs for Coe.

Buoni went the first eight innings on the mound, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, while striking out four and received his first loss of the year. He also reached base twice at the plate, recording a single and a walk.

After a day off, Brandywine (5-2) plays two games against SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday with game one slated to begin at 1:45 PM.
