MONACA, Pa. -- Freshman Trevin Jones (Springfield, Pa./The Christian Academy) sealed Penn State Brandywine's fourth-straight victory by scoring an overtime goal, lifting the Lions to a 3-2 Penn State University Athletic Conference men's soccer victory at Penn State Beaver on Saturday.
Jones' goal came just 1:52 into the extra session. He sent a low, diagonal shot to the back post after receiving a feed from Brad Jule (Chester Springs, Pa./Salesianum) as Brandywine improved to 3-0 in conference play and 5-1 overall.
The overtime victory was the first for Brandywine since Sept. 20, 2014 when the Lions posted a triumph at Beaver by an identical 3-2 score.
Beaver had rallied from a two-goal deficit on a pair of scores from Julius Illiano during a six minute span of the second half.
Bill Walleekendeh (Chester, Pa./Chester), the nation's leading scorer, gave the Lions a 2-0 lead with a pair of first-half scores. Walleekendeh now has four consecutive multi-goal efforts and owns 45 points on 21 goals and three assists this fall.
Net minder Joe Opdenaker (Lenni, Pa./The Christian Academy) improved to 5-1 in net after making a pair of saves, while Samuel Sharpless made six stops in a losing effort for Beaver. Brandywine held a 19-6 edge in shots and attempted three of the game's four corner kicks.
Brandywine visits Delaware Valley in a non-conference contest Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
