Nikki Velez’s Jersey To Be Displayed In Women’s Basketball Hall Of Fame

MEDIA, Pa. – 2020 Penn State Brandywine graduate Nikki Velez will have her No. 1 jersey displayed at the Ring of Honor at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn., in recognition of her outstanding career beginning this summer.

Currently, the Ring of Honor consists of over 100 jerseys hanging from the rafters of the back rotunda at the Hall of Fame. By acknowledging these young athletes, the Hall of Fame can fulfill their mission to "honor the past, celebrate the present, and promote the future" of women's basketball. The display includes jerseys of the top high school and college players from previous seasons.

Velez, Brandywine's all-time leading scorer, poured in 1,800 points during her 111-game career from 2016-20. The top shooter in team history, Velez made 325 three-pointers and shot nearly 39 percent from beyond the arc.

She capped her senior season by being named United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Player of the Year and Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Year. Velez earned four all-American awards and was a four-time First Team All-PSUAC performer.

Also a standout shortstop on the diamond, Velez collected over 100 hits and batted .363 as a four-year starter for the Brandywine softball team.

Velez was a member of five conference championship-winning teams during her time at Brandywine, winning two basketball titles and three softball crowns.

Since graduating with a degree in psychology, Velez has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach on the Brandywine women's basketball staff, while pursuing a master's degree from Lock Haven University.

The Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, which opened in 1999, is the only facility of its kind, dedicated to all levels of women's basketball.  For more information on the Ring of Honor or the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame visit www.wbhof.com.
