MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 campaign with a 83-51 setback at Neumann University on Wednesday night.
Jazmyn Kemp (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) was the Lions' lone double-figure scorer, notching 10 points. Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) added nine points, while Cassidy Tolbert (Austell, Ga./Pebblebrook) and Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) both recorded eight points.
Turnovers were costly for the Lions as Neumann scored 31 points off 33 Brandywine miscues. The Knights also shot 48 percent from the field, while Brandywine connected on 34.5 percent of its field goal attempts.
Brandywine shot 75 percent from the floor during the opening quarter, but 15 turnovers helped the host build a 21-13 lead.
The Knights' lead grew as large as 19 points during the second period before three points from Kemp and a bucket by Tinyia Terrell (Milford, Va./Caroline) made the count 43-28 at the break.
Neumann began the second half with a 9-0 run to expand the margin to 24 points and its lead would not dip below 20 points the rest of the way.
Kemp paired her 10 points with 10 rebounds to record a double-double in her collegiate debut. Diawara and Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) both tallied five boards, while Terrell collected a team-high four steals.
Brandywine (0-1) will open the home portion of its schedule Tuesday night against Penn State York at 5:30 PM.
