St. Elizabeth Downs Brandywine 90-75
MEDIA, Pa. – St. Elizabeth University recorded a 90-75 victory over the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team on Wednesday night in United East Conference women's basketball action.
Backed by seven points from Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown), Brandywine ran out to an 11-5 lead less than four minutes into the first quarter. The Eagles answered with a 13-0 surge to build a seven-point edge, but the Lions got within three by the end of the stanza thanks to baskets from Watson and Taylor Mims (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood).
Jazmyn Kemp's (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) put-back trimmed the deficit to just one point early in the second quarter; however, St. Elizabeth answered with seven of the next nine points and later closed out the half with an 8-0 run to lead by 15 points at the break.
The Eagles' lead swelled to 20 points during the third quarter before Brandywine fought back early in the final stanza. Trailing 67-47, Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) netted five-straight points to jumpstart a 13-3 surge. Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) poured in the final six points of the run, including a layup that cut the margin to 10 with 7:30 to play.
The visitors held off the Lions as SEU answered Allen's basket with five-straight points and never let Brandywine cut the margin to fewer than 12 points the rest of the way.
Kemp paired a team-high 20 points with a team-best 13 rebounds, while Allen collected 15 points. Watson and Diawara both chipped in 13 points and Mims produced 10 points.
