Lions Run Winning Streak To Six Games

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team extended its winning streak to six games on Monday night following an 81-53 victory at Vaughn College.

The Lions, who have rebounded following an 0-3 start to the season, have won nine of their last 10 games and now stand at 9-4 overall this winter.

Four players scored in double figures for the Lions, led by Nicolette Napoleon (Springfield, Pa./Penn Charter) and Ali Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's), who each netted career highs with 13 points. Napoleon also grabbed 10 rebounds for her first-career double-double, while Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) added 12 points and five assists.

Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) contributed 10 points and six rebounds for the Lions, who shot 40 percent from the field and held a 62-47 rebounding edge.

Abbonizio and Kendra Stanford (Philadelphia, Pa./William Bodine) combined for 14 first-quarter points as Brandywine built a 30-11 edge through 10 minutes. The lead swelled to 25 points following a Brandi James (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) layup at the 5:03 mark, but the Warriors scored the final five points of the half, making the Lions' margin 16 at the break.

Brandywine put the Warriors away in the third quarter behind a 20-1 run to open the stanza. Velez drained back-to-back three-pointers, while Madison D'Ambrosio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and James each added layups and Wilson capped the surge with a triple followed by a jumper with 3:09 remaining.

The Lions limited Vaughn to 26 percent shooting and forced 24 turnovers. Kayla Bryant led the Warriors with 22 points.

Brandywine opens a three-game homestand on Friday night against Penn State DuBois. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 pm.
