Velez Earns PSUAC Player Of The Week Honors

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore guard Nikki Velez (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester City) was selected as the women's basketball player of the week by the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

During Brandywine's first three games of the season, Velez averaged 17.3 points, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals, earning the second weekly honor of her career.

In the team's season opener at Rosemont, Velez played all 45 minutes, collecting 12 points, five rebounds and four assists during an 83-80 overtime setback to the Ravens. At the Neumann University Tournament last weekend, Velez poured in 25 points, one point shy of her career high, during the opening game against the host Knights and added 15 points, six steals and three assists in a victory over Bryn Athyn on Sunday. Following Sunday's game, Velez was named to the all-tournament team.

Velez, the 2016-17 PSUAC Newcomer of the Year, has averaged 17.1 points per outing in 33 career games. She made connected on six triples during the three-game opening week and has now made at least one three-pointer in 30 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Brandywine (1-2) visits Immaculata on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM.
