Schuylkill Runs Past Brandywine In PSUAC Opener

MEDIA, Pa. -- Kody Jacoby posted 34 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists as Penn State Schuylkill defeated Penn State Brandywine 100-80 during the Penn State University Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Wednesday night.

Schuylkill netted the game's opening basket, but it took Brandywine just 67 seconds to score the next nine points as James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby) buried a three and followed with a layup, while Shafi Mohammad (Philadelphia, Pa./Hawbridge School (N.C.)) and Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) added baskets.

The Lions pushed the lead to 11 at the 15:50 mark following a three-pointer from Isaiah Wilmore (Philadelphia, Pa./Ben Franklin), but Schuylkill fought back, battling to within one on Jacoby's layup with 10:07 to play in the half.

Brandywine answered with the next six points and eventually led by eight on a putback by Spencer; however, the basket from Spencer with 6:22 to go was the Lions' final points of the half as Schuylkill ended the stanza with a 21-0 surge and took a 47-34 halftime lead.

A pair of Spencer free throws cut the deficit to 12 for Brandywine with 18:06 to play, but Schuylkill responded with an 11-2 run and was not threatened the rest of the way.

Wilmore topped Brandywine with 17 points, while Fisher collected 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Spencer tallied 12 points, along with five rebounds and Keyon Boykin (Philadelphia, Pa./Ben Franklin) was the fourth Lion to reach double figures, scoring 10 points in 11 minutes off the bench.

Brandywine shot 39 percent (27-69) from the field, but connected on just 4-of-20 three-pointers, while Schuylkill made 51 percent of its attempts from the floor and outrebounded Brandywine 49-39.

Brandywine (1-4, 0-1 PSUAC) hosts Penn State Lehigh Valley on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
