Brianna Banks Selected To Arthur Ashe Jr., Sports Scholar Third Team

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore women's soccer student-athlete Brianna Banks (Philadelphia, Pa./Parkway Center) was named to the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Third Team by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine recently.

Diverse: Issues In Higher Education sponsors the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars, honoring undergraduate students who excel both on the field and in the classroom. Since 1992, the magazine has selected the top minority student-athletes who have completed at least two semesters at their institution and hold a grade-point average of 3.20 or higher.

Banks, the only student-athlete from Penn State University's 19 campuses that sponsor varsity athletics to be honored, owns a 3.47 GPA as a human development and family studies major.

A two-time USCAA First Team All-American, Banks has twice been named Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring during both of her seasons at Brandywine. Last fall, she topped all PSUAC players with 20 goals and 44 total points, while ranking fifth in goals scored and seventh in total points nationally.

Through two seasons with the Lions, Banks has amassed 50 goals and 13 assists for 113 points in 30 career games. She is also a two-time PSUAC All-Academic Team selection.

Brandywine finished the 2017 season with a record of 10-2-2 and won the PSUAC championship for the second consecutive season.
