Brandywine Holds Off Cedar Crest For First United East Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- Emma Kearns (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Addy Stanton (Henderson, Nev./Coronado) linked up for both of Penn State Brandywine's goals and the Lions earned their first-ever United East Conference women's soccer victory, holding off Cedar Crest 2-1 on Saturday.

Kearns assisted on both Stanton goals, her fourth and fifth helpers in two games this week, while Stanton found the back of the net for the fourth and fifth times in the Lions' last two games.

The first shot of the afternoon for either team found the back of the net as Stanton tapped home Kearns' crossing feed in the 14th minute. The duo combined to double the margin to 2-0 at the 27:12 mark when Kearns sent Stanton in on goal with a lead pass and Stanton fired the ball into the back of the net.

The count remained 2-0 until Cedar Crest trimmed the margin in half with a goal in the 83rd minute, but that was the Falcons' final shot attempt of the day as the Brandywine defense held strong for the team's first United East victory.

Jasmin Alvarez (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) stopped five of the six shots she faced, including four in the first half, to improve to 5-1-1 on the fall. Stanton and Kearns combined to record nine of Brandywine's 16 shots.

Brandywine (5-1-1, 1-0 UEC) will look to extend its unbeaten streak to seven-straight matches Wednesday when the Lions visit St. Mary's of Maryland at 7:30 PM.
