Brandywine Bests Cedar Crest For First Win

MEDIA, Pa. -- After dropping its season-opening match six days ago to Cedar Crest, the Penn State Brandywine women's tennis avenged the defeat, edging the Falcons 5-4 for its first victory of the season on Thursday.

Brandywine won two of the three doubles matches as Heather Gartside (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) and Roxane-Mae Agno (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) claimed the No. 1 battle with an 8-4 win and Elizabeth Sexton (Berwyn, Pa./Westtown School) and Melody Zheng (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) posted an 8-0 sweep in the No. 3 slot.

Agno was also a winner at No. 3 singles, topping Cedar Crest's Kristina Litonjua 8-5. Alexis Ellison (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) won fifth-flight singles 8-6 and Katie Corey (Lansdowne, Pa./Agora Cyber Charter) took her No. 4 singles match 8-6 as Brandywine split six singles contests to earn the one-point victory.

The Lions play three-straight road matches beginning Tuesday at Cairn at 3:30 pm.
