
Brandywine Completes Season Sweep Of Rosemont
MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine defeated Rosemont by a 3-0 score (25-18, 25-10, 25-13) for the second time this season to earn a United East Conference volleyball victory on Wednesday night.
The Lions overcame an early 13-6 deficit behind the serving of Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), who recorded five consecutive aces to bring Brandywine within one. The Ravens upped their lead back to three before five-straight points from the Lions vaulted Brandywine in front. Emma O'Reilly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) tied the count at 17-17 with a kill before Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) put Brandywine on top with another kill.
Brandywine pulled away late during the opening set, scoring 11 of the final 12 points, aided by three kills from Morgan Rizer (Denton, Md./North Caroline), to claim the opening frame going away, 25-18.
Trailing 6-4 during the second set, Ramirez's kill started a 17-1 Brandywine surge as the Lions seized control. Ramirez and Hailey Piccirillo (Broadlands, Va./Virginia Academy) both notched two kills during the run, while Jezyk set down three aces.
Brandywine used another lengthy run in set No. 3, this time scoring eight-straight points, to build a 12-point edge. Piccirillo tallied consecutive kills and Jezyk reeled off the final four points of the spurt with three aces and a kill as the Lions took the final frame 25-13.
Jezky collected 16 assists, 12 aces and three kills, while Ramirez posted a team-best nine kills and Piccirillo and O'Reilly both amassed six. Rizer added five kills and Ramirez produced five aces.
Defensively, Ramirez had 10 digs, while Emmalin Molinaro (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) and Ava De La Osa (Dania Beach, Fla./Nova) both tallied six. Piccirillo and Britney Howell (Newark, Del./Delcastle Tech) both recorded five digs.
Brandywine (6-14, 3-4 United East) faces Penn State Berks on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
