Thirteen Three-Pointers Not Enough For Brandywine In Setback At Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team knocked down 13 three-pointers, but Haverford College rallied from four points down at halftime to post a 73-66 victory on Wednesday night.

Seven different players connected on a triple for Brandywine, paced by 6-of-8 shooting by Pat Gallagher (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown). Gallagher netted 8-of-12 shots from the field overall, pouring in a career-high 24 points, while also grabbing four rebounds.

Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./West Chester Rustin) added a pair of threes and finished as the second Lion in double figures with 10 points. R.J. Dixon (Reading, Pa./Reading) contributed eight points and both Josh Smith (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) and Dwayne Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) grabbed six rebounds.

Coleman opened the game with a triple and Smith followed with a three of his own as Brandywine quickly established a six-point lead. Haverford answered with a 9-0 spurt to vault into the lead, but the Lions countered by scoring 10-straight points to go back in front midway through the half.

The Fords chipped away, moving back into the lead with one minute to go in the half behind a three-point play from Pietro Berghella, but Gallagher knocked down a pair of triples during the final 20 seconds to put the Lions in front 37-33 at intermission.

Two-straight baskets from Isiah Cook (Reading, Pa./Reading) pushed the Lions' edge to 48-40 five minutes into the second half. Haverford rallied with a long run, outscoring Brandywine 26-5 over the next 12 minutes to build a 66-53 advantage.

Brandywine trimmed the margin as low as 69-66 with 40 seconds to play; however, Joe Scibelli knocked down a three-pointer during the Fords' next possession to ice the game.

Scibelli produced game-highs with 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Fords, who outrebounded Brandywine 52-34 and pulled down 18 offensive boards. The Lions committed just 11 turnovers, but were limited to 9-of-26 shooting inside the arc.

Brandywine (1-2) plays its first home game of the season Tuesday when the Lions host Bryn Athyn at 7:00 pm.
