Two Long Runs Give Brandywine 82-65 Victory

DUBOIS, Pa. – Runs of 17-0 and 23-6 helped the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team earn an 82-65 victory at Penn State DuBois on Friday night.

The Lions ran out to a 12-2 lead behind 12 combined points from Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) and Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) and after a pair of DuBois baskets, embarked on a 17-0 surge spanning 4:14 of game time to open up a 29-6 edge.

Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) got the run started with a free throw and netted five points overall during the spurt, as did Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science). Barrouk added a three-pointer and Jaden Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./GAMP) knocked down two free throws, while Tim Mattern (Lincoln University, Pa./Salesianum) closed the run with a fast-break layup at the 9:42 mark.

After Brandywine's defense forced DuBois into 11 consecutive missed shots and a pair of turnovers, the hosts battled back, outscoring the Lions 26-9 during the remainder of the half to pull within seven at intermission.

The hosts continued to chip away at Brandywine's lead, closing within 44-42 when Guy Anthony canned a jumper at the 13:50 mark of the second half.

The Lions led 49-46 when Kelly was fouled and sank a pair of free throws, beginning Brandywine's second lengthy run of the evening.

Brandywine outscored DuBois 23-6 over the next 6:14 to put the game out of reach. Ten of Brandywine's points came at the free throw line, while Barrouk buried a triple with 9:40 to go that would give the Lions a double-figure lead for the remainder of the game.

Barrouk netted 6-of-8 three-point attempts and 8-of-14 shots overall en route to scoring a game-high 26 points. He also led all players with 12 rebounds, while Hockenbrock shot 7-for-11 and contributed a season-best 22 points, along with seven boards.

Graves added nine points and Kelly scored all six of his points at the free throw stripe, while delivering four assists.

Brandywine recorded assists on 19 of its 26 made baskets and shot over 41 percent from the field. The Lions limited the hosts to 36 percent shooting, including a 5-of-19 mark from three-point range.

Brandywine (3-5, 2-2 PSUAC) closes out its weekend trip Saturday against Penn State Greater Allegheny at 3:00 PM.
