Brandywine Continues Winning Ways In Victory Over Schuylkill

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine picked up a key Penn State University Athletic Conference men's basketball victory on Friday night, edging Penn State Schuylkill 61-58, as the Lions won their fourth-straight game overall and posted an eighth consecutive conference victory.

Brandywine and Schuylkill, both of which entered Friday with an 8-2 league mark, saw a tightly-contested matchup throughout as neither team led by more than six at any point.

Schuylkill's biggest lead came midway through the first half, but the Lions battled back to within one by halftime.

Brandywine claimed its first lead of the second half thanks to a 7-0 spurt capped by Jamar Wright's (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) free throw at the 13:15 mark; however, Schuylkill answered with seven-straight points of its own to vault back in front.

Schuylkill maintained a one-possession lead until Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) canned a three-pointer with 6:15 to play, putting Brandywine on top 46-45.

The hosts knotted the count three times over the next three minutes, but Devon Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington) gave the Lions the lead for good by sinking a jumper with 3:15 on the clock. Sixty seconds later, Colin Hockenbrock's (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) three-point play extended the Lions' lead to five, their biggest of the night.

Schuylkill closed to within two points twice and after a free throw from Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) made the score 61-58, Schuylkill had a final possession with an opportunity to tie, but could not get a shot off.

Barrouk paced the scoring effort with 15 points, while Hockenbrock produced 11 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Dunson chipped in with 11 points and Jones notched eight points, four assists and three steals.

Brandywine (10-7, 9-2 PSUAC) returns home Wednesday to host Penn State Lehigh Valley on Threes for THON Night at 8:00 PM.
