Brandywine Eases To 29-Point Victory Over Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team earned its fourth road victory of the season and completed a two-game season sweep of Penn State Scranton, downing the hosts 79-50 on Wednesday night.

The teams were tied 10-10 through four minutes, but back-to-back three-pointers from Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) gave Brandywine a lead that it would not relinquish the rest of the way. Hockenbrock's triples accounted for the first six points of an 18-3 surge spanning more than seven minutes as Brandywine opened up a 28-13 edge.

Scranton trimmed the margin to 14 points on two occasions during the next three minutes before three-pointers from Olayinka Itabiyi (Chester, Pa./Chester) and Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science), along with two Hockenbrock free throws and a Wright layup swelled the Lions' advantage to 23 points. Dillon Jones (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) knocked down a triple with 43 seconds left in the opening half to give Brandywine a 47-23 lead at intermission.

Scranton outscored Brandywine 10-4 during the first four minutes of the second period, but a three-point play from Joey Brusha (Abington, Pa./Abington) ended the Scranton spurt and the Lions lead never dipped below 20 points the rest of the way.

Hockenbrock produced an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Wright tallied 12 points. Devon Jones (Philadelphia, Pa./Abington) and Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) both added 10 points and Itabiyi notched nine markers.

Brandywine shot 44 percent from the field and knocked down 10 triples. The Lions' defense limited Scranton to just 22 percent shooting.

Brandywine (7-12, 7-7 PSUAC) will play three of its next four games at home beginning with Saturday's 2:00 PM matchup versus Penn State Lehigh Valley.
