Brandywine Drops Season-Opening Match To Gwynedd Mercy

MEDIA, Pa. -- Gwynedd Mercy University scored four times during the first half en route to defeating Penn State Brandywine 5-0 during the 2023 women's soccer season opener for both teams on Friday afternoon.

The Griffins notched their first goal at the 15:08 mark and added a pair of scores during a span of 1:24 less than 15 minutes later to build a 3-0 edge. GMU added a fourth goal with just four seconds remaining in the first half.

Demareste Dorvilma (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) registered 12 saves, including nine during the opening period, while playing all 90 minutes in net.

Four of the Lions' five shots came in the second half. Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) recorded a pair of shots on goal, while Jaylin Berrios (Lancaster, Pa./McCaskey), Gia Cetroni (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) and Zoey Lineman (West Deptford, N.J./GCIT) all registered one shot.

Brandywine (0-1) continues its season-opening three-match homestand on Wednesday against NCAA Division II Lincoln University at 4:00 PM.
