Harriers Walk Off With Victory Over Brandywine

VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Miami-Hamilton plated a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off with a victory and defeat Penn State Brandywine for the second-straight night, edging the Lions 4-3 on Monday evening.

The Harriers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning as Triston Busick doubled in two runs and crossed home following Jarrod Hall's RBI single.

Brandywine, which was held hitless until Tom Osenbach's (Newtown Square, Pa./West Chester Christian) base hit in the sixth, used a three-run seventh frame to knot the score at 3-3.T.J. Wiest (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) started the comeback when he led off with a walk and hustled to second on a wild pitch. Pinch-hitter John Gorgone (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) then singled in Wiest with the Lions' first run. After an error allowed Kevin Dougherty (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) to reach base and moved Gorgone to second, Gorgone came around to score via a passed ball and throwing error. One batter later, Dougherty tied the game after speeding home from second base following a wild pitch.

Brandywine pitching shutdown the Harrier offense until the bottom of the ninth inning when Miami-Hamilton loaded the bases with no outs. After a Harrier runner was thrown out at the plate, Brandon Tirey sent a dribbler down the third base line, allowing Tyler Thamann to score the game-winning run.

Two Brandywine pitchers combined to allow a season-low seven hits. Bradley Ulmer (Newark, Del./St. George's Tech) went the first 5 2/3 innings on the mound, striking out three, while surrendering three earned runs on five hits. Nate Forwood (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) relieved Ulmer and worked him out of trouble in the sixth. He tossed 2 2/3 innings of relief and gave up just one unearned run, but suffered the loss.

The Lions (1-6) play their final two games in Vero Beach on Tuesday morning against Rochester (Mich.) beginning at 9:00 am.
