Moravian Runs Away From Brandywine In 82-62 Setback

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Moravian College outscored Penn State Brandywine 47-31 during the second half and denied the Lions' men's basketball team its first 2-0 start in 24 years by knocking off Brandywine 82-62 on Monday night.

The homestanding Greyhounds led by just four at 37-33 with 18:33 to play following Ketquan Gatewood's (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Collegiate Prep) layup, but Moravian scored 10-straight points over the next four minutes to build a double-figure lead.

Brandywine narrowed the deficit to eight following back-to-back baskets from Johnta Dunson (Philadelphia, Pa./Freire Charter) and Dean Kane (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown); however, Moravian tallied the next six points and would lead by double digits for the duration of the game.

Moravian broke the game open following a closely-contested first half. For the second-straight game, Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) led the offense early, scoring 11 points during the first 9:30 of the game as Brandywine held a 17-13 edge at the midway mark of the first half.

The Lions owned a lead as large as five points before Moravian rallied to go in front just before the half. Danny Cooper put the Greyhounds up two by canning a three-pointer with 1:24 to go and Alex Dietz made the count 35-31 at the break with a buzzer-beating jump shot.

Dunson led the Lions in scoring with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while Barrouk added 13 points and Jordan Graves (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) tallied 11 points. Barrouk hauled in a team-high nine rebounds and collected three steals. Colin Hockenbrock (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) blocked four shots and pulled in six rebounds.

Cooper (20), Dietz (11) and Nate Dougherty (21) scored in double figures for Moravian, which shot 46 percent from the field. Brandywine connected on 35 percent of its shots and forced 19 Moravian turnovers.

Brandywine (1-1) returns to Media for its home tournament beginning Saturday against Manor at 6:00 pm.
