Brandywine Basketball Duo Honored With USCAA National Academic Awards

UNIONTOWN, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore women's basketball player Ally Giannakarios (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) and sophomore men's basketball player Anthony Lattanzi (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) were both named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Academic Team Saturday night prior to the beginning of the association's national tournament.

The USCAA All-Academic Team is awarded to student-athletes who have accumulated a minimum GPA of 3.50 and reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Giannakarios, who owns a 3.53 grade-point average, is a psychology major at Brandywine. She appeared in 26 of the team's 27 games this winter, starting one. Giannakarios averaged 2.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game during her first season with the team, helping Brandywine to an 18-9 overall record and its 14th-straight appearances in the PSUAC Tournament semifinals.

Brandywine women's basketball has had at least one member of the squad honored on the USCAA Winter National Academic Team every year since joining the USCAA in 2008-09.

Lattanzi, only the second men's basketball student-athlete from Brandywine to claim the accolade, has earned a 3.68 GPA as an accounting major. He was a starter in 23 games for the Lions in 2018-19, collecting 6.5 points per game, while ranking second on the team in rebounding at 6.5 boards per game. During two seasons at Brandywine, Lattanzi has accumulated 215 points and 203 rebounds.

Brandywine men's basketball reached the PSUAC Tournament for the second consecutive year, finishing with an overall record of 14-12.
