Brandywine Drops Two At PSUAC Crossover

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team suffered a five-set defeat against Penn State Mont Alto and was knocked off in straight sets by Penn State DuBois Sunday afternoon at the Penn State University Athletic Conference crossover event in State College.

Brandywine took the opening set from Mont Alto by a 25-21 count and after dropping the next two frames, sent the match to a deciding fifth set by claiming the fourth, 28-26. Mont Alto edged out the Lions 15-12 to earn the match victory.

Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) posted nine kills, four digs and two blocks, while Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) collected eight kills, three aces and 16 digs. Jordan Thompson (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) posted six kills, three aces and five blocks and Lexie Berry (Brookhaven, Pa./Daegu) added five kills and three digs. Dana Palmer (New London, Pa./Avon Grove) totaled seven kills.

Madison Swenson (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett) registered team bests with 31 assists and 22 digs, while Suzie Alvarenga (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) tallied 19 digs and Sydney Stevens (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) amassed 16 digs.

DuBois swept the Lions in their second match of the day by set scores of 25-18, 25-15, 25-14.

Thompson registered a team-high four kills, along with five digs and three blocks, while Floyd and Palmer both added three kills.

Brandywine recieved 12 digs from Alvarenga, nine by Stevens and six from Swenson, who also produced 12 assists. 

Brandywine (9-6, 8-1 PSUAC) plays its final non-conference match of the season Tuesday at Manor (6:00 pm).
