Alvarenga, Ramirez Earn Second Team All-American Honors

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine juniors Suzie Alvarenga (Fullerton, Calif./Notre Dame Academy) and Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) were both named Second Team All-Americans by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association on Wednesday night.

The duo are each now two-time all-Americans as Alvarenga earned second team accolades for the second-straight year, while Ramirez was an honorable mention selection in 2022.

Alvarenga topped the Lions in digs for the third consecutive season, recording 280 in 17 matches as the team's starting libero. She averaged 5.00 digs per set, ranking sixth in the USCAA in that category. In the season opener against Immaculata, Alvarenga notched a season-high 30 digs, one of five matches with 20-plus digs this fall.

Alvarenga was also third on the team with 29 service aces, while adding 27 assists and eight kills.

In three seasons at Brandywine, Alvarenga logged 958 digs and 92 aces.

Ramirez, who also earned her second First Team All-Penn State University Athletic Conference award in October, was the Lions' leader in kills. She compiled 176 kills, an average of 2.79 per set, during 19 matches this season. Ramirez ranked 14th nationally in kills and sixth in the USCAA in kills per set. She tallied double figure kills nine times, including a season-best 17 at Rosemont on Sept. 20.

In addition, Ramirez was third on the team after recording 177 digs. Along with her 17 kills against Rosemont, Ramirez posted a season-high 21 digs during the match.

Ramirez, who has paced the Lions in kills in back-to-back seasons, owns 519 kills and 536 digs in 62 career matches.
