Brandywine Falls In PSUAC Tournament To DuBois

DUBOIS, Pa. – Top-seeded Penn State DuBois scored 12-straight runs to take a commanding lead and held off No. 3 Penn State Brandywine 12-6 in the second round of the PSUAC Baseball Tournament on Sunday afternoon.

Brandywine stormed out to a 3-0 lead after the top half of the first inning, but was held off the scoreboard again until striking for three runs during the seventh inning. Brandywine (20-16) will face Mont Alto in an elimination game later Sunday.

Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) provided a three-run triple to stake the Lions to an early lead sending a two-out pitch just inside the right-field line to score Dalton Palmer (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock), Joey Buoni (Chester Heights, Pa./Salesianum) and Joe Hurley (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan).

Three home runs accounted for seven of DuBois' 12 runs as the hosts scored in all six at-bats.

Two runs scored on a groundout and an error, while Nick Kutufaris (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added a run-scoring single during a three-run seventh inning for the Lions.

Brandywine out-hit DuBois 11-10 as Kutufaris delivered a 3-for-4 performance and Hurley and Ben Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) both collected a pair of knocks.

Tyler Michaels (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) struck out three, but allowed six runs in 1.2 innings, taking just his second loss of the season on the mound for Brandywine. Nick Petrella (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) recorded four strikeouts and yielded six runs during the final 4.2 frames.
