DeGirolamo, Thompson Claim PSUAC Weekly Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine's Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was named hitter of the week, while Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) was selected as the pitcher of the week by the Penn State University Athletic Conference on Tuesday.

DeGirolamo and Thompson helped Brandywine to a 10-1 victory over Penn State York in the second round of the PSUAC Tournament last Thursday. In four at-bats, DeGirolamo produced two hits and drove in two runs. Thompson tossed his fifth complete game of the season, striking out one, while allowing just one run over seven innings as he earned his team-high fifth win of the year.

Thompson also fired a scoreless inning on Tuesday during Brandywine's 31-12 victory over Clarks Summit in the regular-season finale.

In 33 games this spring, DeGirolamo leads Brandywine with a .415 batting average and is tied for second on the team with 44 hits. He has driven in 32 runs, while scoring 12 times. DeGirolamo ranks in the top five among PSUAC East Division players in hits, RBI, batting average and doubles.

Thompson has thrown more innings than any other PSUAC hurler for the second-straight year, having completed 67.0 frames. His five victories are tied for second in the league, while he also stands fourth in strikeouts (43) and ERA (2.50).

Brandywine (26-12) will continue the PSUAC Tournament Sunday with a winners bracket game against Penn State DuBois at 2:00 PM at Medlar Field.
