Brandywine Drops PSUAC Tournament Matchup To DuBois

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Second-seeded Penn State DuBois took the lead by scoring twice in the top of the sixth inning as the top-seeded Penn State Brandywine baseball team dropped a winners bracket game of the Penn State University Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament by a 4-2 score on Sunday afternoon.

DuBois used four first inning singles to build a two-run lead, but Brandywine cut the deficit in half with a run during the bottom of the first. Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) legged out an infield single to lead off and came around to score three batters later on Mike DeGirolamo's (Frederick, Md./Frederick) ground ball.

Brandywine recorded the equalizer in the third as Baughman started the frame by lacing a triple into the right-center field gap and Evan Abegg (Commerce City, Colo./Prairie View) followed with a ground ball, scoring Baughman.

Following the two-run first inning, Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) limited DuBois to one hit over the next four, but DuBois struck for a pair of runs in the sixth behind three hits, including two that went for extra bases.

Brandywine brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth and had a pair of base runners in the seventh, but could not push another run across.

Baughman accounted for three of Brandywine's four hits and scored both runs, while Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) reached base twice with a single and a walk. Thompson recorded three strikeouts and allowed four runs over six innings, while Michael Govan (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) worked a scoreless seventh inning, fanning one.

Brandywine (26-13) will face Penn State York in an elimination game Monday at 10:00 AM at Medlar Park in State College. The winner will battle DuBois in the championship round at 1:00 PM.
