USCAA Honors Nine From Brandywine On Spring National Academic Team

MEDIA, Pa. -- Nine Penn State Brandywine baseball and softball student-athletes earned places on the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Spring National Academic Team that was announced last week.

Representing the national champion Brandywine softball team were Gianna Casale (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert), Farrell Everett (Wynnewood, Pa./Haverford), Meghan Ferry (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City), Karly Rees (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) and Becky Valente (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford). Selections from the Brandywine baseball team included Bryce Barrouk (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin), Tim Cohen (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East), Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) and Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie).

The USCAA All-Academic Team is awarded to student-athletes who have accumulated a minimum GPA of 3.50 and reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Casale sports a 3.85 grade-point average as a psychology major. She made appearances in 30 games this spring for the Lions, collecting 10 hits and nine RBI.

Everett received her degree in communications earlier this month, graduating with a 3.52 GPA. She finished her four-year career with 60 hits and 49 RBI after batting .382 and driving in 22 runs this season.

Ferry, named most valuable player of the USCAA World Series, hit a team-best five home runs and knocked in 28 during 32 starts this season. She owns a 3.58 GPA as a psychology major.

Rees has earned the top GPA by a current Brandywine student-athlete at 3.99. The business major hit .489, while driving in 22 runs over 33 games.

A psychology major, Valente has amassed a 3.96 GPA through two years at Brandywine. She collected six hits and seven runs scored in 24 games for the Lions in 2023.

Barrouk was the USCAA National Player of the Year and a First Team All-American during the 2022-23 men's basketball season before playing his first season with the Brandywine baseball team this spring. He graduated with a 3.64 GPA, earning his degree in business management.

Cohen made five appearances out of the bullpen for the Lions in 2023, recording a 1-0 record with five strikeouts. He owns a 3.50 GPA as a business major.

Thompson earned all-American honors from the USCAA after posting a team-high five wins and USCAA-best 73.0 innings pitched. An engineering major, Thompson has earned a 3.50 GPA.

Webb owns a 3.52 GPA through two years as an engineering major. On the field, he was named all-American after batting .396 with 44 hits, 35 RBI and 31 runs scored.
