Four Brandywine Baseball Standouts Receive All-American Honors

DUBOIS, Pa. -- Four Penn State Brandywine baseball players were named all-Americans by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association on Sunday evening. Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) and Shawn Webb (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) earned first team honors, while Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was a second team selection and Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) was an honorable mention awardee.

Wright, who earned an all-American nod for the second-straight year, was named Penn State University Athletic Conference Player of the Year in April. In 40 games this spring, Wright became the third player in program history to record a 50-hit season, tallying 53 knocks. He also finished ranked in the top 10 in the USCAA in RBI with 41 and runs scored with 42.

Wright hit safely in 30-of-40 games, while producing 16 games of two or more hits. Sixteen of his hits went for extra bases, one shy of the team lead.

Wright finished his 138-game career second all-time on the program's hit list with 158 knocks. He batted .346 for the Lions with 97 RBI and 96 runs scored.

Webb was the team's top power-hitting threat, producing team highs with three home runs, 12 doubles and 17 extra-base hits. Overall, he batted .396, while driving in 35 runs and scoring 31 times.

As the team's starting right fielder in all 40 games, Webb also collected a team-best 20 stolen bases in 22 attempts. Brandywine finished 16-5 in games when Webb knocked in a run and was 10-1 when he produced two or more RBI in a game.

Through two seasons at Brandywine, Webb owns a .327 batting average with four home runs, 44 RBI and 43 runs scored.

DeGirolamo recorded one of the top offensive seasons by a catcher in the USCAA, collecting a team-high .398 batting average and 45 hits. His 33 RBI were good for third on the team and a top-20 mark in the USCAA.

During 35 games this spring, DeGirolamo tallied five three-hit games and 10 more with two knocks. He was one of the toughest batters to strike out in the USCAA, fanning just nine times in 113 at-bats.

DeGirolamo has appeared in 59 games with the Lions during the last two seasons, registering 61 hits, a .363 batting average and 42 RBI.

Thompson was the ace of the Brandywine pitching staff, recording a team-high five victories during 10 starts and 14 overall appearances this season.

He topped all USCAA pitchers by throwing five complete games and 73.0 innings overall. He pitched to a 2.84 earned run average, one of the top marks by a USCAA starting pitcher and struck out 46 batters, a team-high total.

Entering his senior year, Thompson has won 13 games at Brandywine. He has amassed 114 strikeouts and a 3.78 ERA over 157.0 innings, while tossing nine complete games.

Brandywine finished the 2023 season with a record of 26-14, setting a new program single-season victory mark.
