Brandywine Tops SUNY Delhi In Men’s Tennis Finale

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's tennis team rounded out a sucessful spring campaign on Wednesday afternoon, besting SUNY Delhi 6-3 during the Lions' season finale.

Brandywine closed its most successful campaign since the 2011 team went undefeated in nine matches by winning six of its 10 contests, eight of which were played against NCAA Division III opponents.

Matt Canavati (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) had no problem with his top-flight singles match, winning 6-1, 6-0, while Wenceslao Lara (North Brunswick, N.J./North Brunswick Twp.) was also a winner in straight sets at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-3).

Phuc Nguyen Ho (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) added a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No.3 and Stevie DiSipio (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) rounded out Brandywine's four singles triumphs at No. 5, winning 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Canavati and Ho teamed to win their top-flight doubles bout 8-3, while the duo of Lara and Victor Ficarra (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown STEM Academy) gave Brandywine its second doubles victory, claiming an 8-5 triumph.
