Central Penn Ousts Brandywine In Non-League Matchup

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Central Penn handed Penn State Brandywine a 102-68 non-conference men's basketball defeat on Tuesday night at the Brandywine Athletic Center.

The Knights shot 55 percent from the field, while limiting Brandywine to 32 percent shooting and held a 63-40 advantage on the boards to earn the victory.

Central Penn ran out to a 21-7 lead, but Brandywine hung tough, using an 11-3 spurt, capped off by back-to-back layups by James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby), to trim the deficit to 23-18.

After the Knights pushed their edge back to double figures, Brandywine once again chipped away, using a Fisher lay in and three-pointer followed by a bucket from Chris Lyons (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) to pull within seven.

Dominique Twiggs answered with a layup minutes later that pushed the Knights' advantage back to 10 and sank a free throw with 31 seconds left before halftime to give Central Penn a 45-31 at intermission.

A jumper by Devon Dorsey pushed Central Penn's lead to 51-35 early in the second half. Andre Batte and Conner Arnold followed with buckets as the Knights pushed the margin to 25.

Marcus Turner (Claymont, Del./Chichester) made the score 63-43 with 13:23 to play, but Daron Johnson answered with a triple on the ensuing Knights' possession and the Lions would not get any closer the rest of the way.

Fisher led all scorers with 20 points, while dishing out four assists. Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) added 16 points along with seven rebounds. Amir Davis (Philadelphia, Pa./Walter Palmer Charter) also grabbed seven boards, while Turner and Torey Green (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) both chipped in with eight points off the bench.

Brandywine forced 21 turnovers, but was marred by 8-of-16 shooting at the free throw line and a 6-of-30 performance from beyond the arc.

Six Knights scored in double figures, led by 15-point efforts from Dorsey and Rahamon Scott.

After a three-week break for finals and the holidays, Brandywine (0-7, 0-3) returns to the court on December 29 at Lycoming (6:00 pm).
