Turnovers Doom Lions In Loss To Valley Forge

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- The University of Valley Forge forced 30 turnovers and ran away with a 99-67 victory over the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team on Tuesday night at the Brandywine Athletic Center.

UVF scored 35 points off Lions' miscues, while shooting 46 percent from the field. Brandywine made 26-of-64 field goals (.406), but connected on just 4-of-17 three-point attempts.

James Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Darby) produced an 11-point, 10-assist double-double, while Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) registered a team-best 15 points. Chris Lyons (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) collected 14 points and Marcus Turner (Claymont, Del./Chichester) added 11.

Pat O'Neill's (Morton, Pa./Ridley) basket at the 15:16 mark made the score 17-14 in favor of Valley Forge, but the Patriots used a 10-0 run spanning nearly five minutes to expand their lead to double figures.

Spencer canned a jumper to slice the deficit to nine; however, UVF answered with the next six points, making the score 45-30. Fisher's three-pointer just before the half ended made the deficit 12 after 20 minutes.

Valley Forge slowly pulled away in the second half as Kevin Mack's layup pushed the lead to 20 five minutes into the stanza and Jonathan Kinyanjui buried a triple at the mid-way point to balloon the edge to 25 points. Brandywine fought back to within 20 on two occasions as Spencer and Fisher converted layups, but Valley Forge used a 9-3 spurt to pull away.

O'Neill and Spencer both pulled down eight rebounds and blocked two shots for Brandywine, while Mack and Thorne MacIntosh snagged eight boards for Valley Forge. Both teams collected 44 rebounds overall, but the Patriots held the edge down low, scoring 62 points in the paint, compared to 34 by the Lions.

Brandywine (0-12, 0-4 PSUAC) returns to conference play Saturday against Penn State New Kensington at 3:00 pm.
