Brandywine Rolls Past SUNY ESF In Final Non-Conference Game

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine opened the game with a 14-0 run and never looked back, besting SUNY ESF 77-55 to close out the first half of the season on Saturday afternoon.

Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) netted Brandywine's first four points of the day before Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) added a basket and Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) notched five consecutive points to make the count 13-0. Damir Shelley (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) closed the Lions' game-opening surge with a free throw at the 15:15 mark.

Brandywine continued to pull away late in the half as Joey Brusha (Abington, Pa./Abington) canned a triple, Shelley sank a jumper and Alexander Derkits (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) contributed the final four points of a 9-0 spurt that made the count 36-16.

The Mighty Oaks cut their deficit as low as 13 points, but Little beat the buzzer with a three-pointer to send the Lions into halftime with a 41-25 edge.

Brandywine controlled the game in the second half as the Lions never let the Mighty Oaks get closer than 16 points. Brusha, Derkits and Wright combined for seven-straight points over the span of 1:03 to open up the Lions' largest lead of the day at 69-43 with under six minutes to play.

Derkits led the offensive effort with a career-high 28 points on 13-of-20 shooting in 34 minutes of action. Fogg notched his second-straight 12-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Little tallied 10 points and Shelley handed out a team-high six assists. Brusha knocked down a trio of triples for nine points and Dillon Jones (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) pulled in eight rebounds.

Brandywine shot 43 percent from the field and sank 15-of-19 attempts at the free throw line, while holding a 45-37 advantage on the boards. The Lions' defense limited SUNY ESF to 24 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers.

Brandywine (3-9, 0-3 United East) will take a three-week break before returning to action on Saturday, January 4 at home against Notre Dame of MD at 3:30 PM.
