Brandywine Names Larry Gainey Head Tennis Coach

MEDIA, Pa. -- Larry Gainey has been named head coach of the men's and women's tennis teams at Penn State Brandywine announced Director of Athletics Bobbi Caprice on Tuesday.

Gainey brings more than 15 years of coaching experience to Brandywine, most recently as varsity tennis coach at Concord High School in Wilmington, Del. Prior to beginning his tenure at Concord in 2021, Gainey coached the Ben Franklin High School tennis team from 2007-12.

Also a personal tennis coach since 2010, Gainey spent 16 years coaching the boys basketball team at Ben Franklin. His basketball coaching career started in 1999 at Parkland High School.

Gainey is a two-time American Tennis Association (ATA) doubles champion and was a part of the No. 1-ranked Middle States mixed doubles team from 2009-13.

Gainey is a graduate of Delaware State University where he was a four-year member of the Hornets' men's basketball team prior to graduating with a Mathematics degree. He earned a Master's degree from Temple University in the same field.
