Brandywine Competes At Bill Butler Invitational; Young Wins Second Shot Put Title

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – For the second-straight week, the Penn State Brandywine track and field teams competed at West Chester University, this time in the Bill Butler Invitational, and for the second consecutive Saturday, Braden Young (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) won the shot put and set a team record in the process.

Young topped the nine-man shot put field with a top throw of 15.01 meters, besting his own team-record mark set one week earlier of 14.15 meters. He also ranked seventh in the discus with a heave of 36.93 meters.

Isaac Canenguez (Worcester, Mass./University Park Campus School) started his busy day with a fifth-place showing in the triple jump (10.32 meters). He also competed in the long jump, where he was seventh with a top leap of 5.29 meters and ran in the 100-meter dash (12.86 seconds).

John Bazaar (Cheshire, Conn./Hamden Hall Country Day) recorded the eighth-fastest time in team history in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:51.44.

On the women's side, Angel Asomugha (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) ran to a time of 3:16.11 at 800 meters, while Hannah Mummert (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) made her season debut, posting a time of 31.50 seconds in the 200-meter sprint.

Brandywine's cross country teams will run on their home course next week at Saturday's Brandywine 5K Invitational, beginning with the women's race at noon. The men will race at 12:30 pm.
