St. Mary’s Downs Brandywine In Florida Opener

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – St. Mary's College (Minn.) racked up 16 runs on 19 hits to hand Penn State Brandywine a 16-1 defeated on Sunday afternoon during the Lions' first of eight games in Florida during Spring Break.

St. Mary's plated three two-out runs in the second inning and doubled their lead with three more scores in the third. The Cardinals put the game away by pushing across 10 runs one frame later.

Bradley Ulmer (Newark, Del./St. George's Tech) took the loss after being tagged for 11 runs in three-plus innings on the mound, while Chris Edwards (West Chester, Pa./West Chester) allowed five runs and struck out four in 4.0 innings of relief.

Brandywine produced its lone run when Matt Masi (West Chester, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) doubled in Joey Buoni (Chester Springs, Pa./Salesianum) in the third inning.

Masi and Buoni each recorded one hit for the Lions' offense, while Brendan Ricciardi (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) went 2-for-2 at the plate and Brett Sheeran (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) also collected a knock.

Brandywine (2-3) faces Waynesburg for a doubleheader Monday afternoon beginning at 3:00 pm in Auburndale at Lake Myrtle Field.
