Brandywine Ends Regular Season With Record-Setting 31-12 Victory

ASTON, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine baseball team set a single-game record by scoring 31 runs and matched the program's single-season record by capturing its 25th victory of the season as the Lions outslugged Clarks Summit 31-12 late Tuesday night.

Brandywine's offense topped the 2015 team that plated 28 runs in a victory at Penn State Wilkes-Barre.The Lions' bat produced 22 hits, their highest total in more than 15 years.

Thirteen Lions put at least one knock in the hit column led by four-hit efforts from Blaise Rago (Philadelphia, Pa./String Theory) and Evan Shade (Green Lane, Pa./Perkiomen Valley). Rago also scored four times, while Shade knocked in a team-best five runs and crossed home three times. Max Tavarez (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) added three hits, four RBI and three runs scored.

Also scoring three times each were Jimmy Carey (Springfield, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) and Jesse Davis (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East). Nick Wright (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) delivered a bases-clearing triple during a 15-run first inning, while Owen Lawton (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East) cleared the bases with a double as part of an 11-run fourth inning.

Brandywine also scored twice in the third and three more times in the sixth, capped by Bryce Barrouk's (Glen Mills, Pa./Rustin) two-run triple during his first-career at-bat.

Highlighting the pitching efforts were Connor Thompson (Finksburg, Md./Westminster), Zane Anderson (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) and Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), who all tossed one scoreless frame and struck out two.

The victory marked the 25th for Brandywine in 37 games this spring, tying the program's single-season victory record held by the 2008-09 and 2006-07 teams.

Brandywine (25-12) will be the No. 1 seed when the PSUAC Tournament begins Friday at 7:00 PM. The Lions will face either Penn State York or Penn State Schuylkill.
