Brandywine Men Sweep RUC; Women Fall In Sunday Matinee

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine's men's tennis team swept all eight matches against Rutgers-Camden, while the Scarlet Raptors' women's tennis team claimed a 5-2 victory over the Lions' women Sunday afternoon.

Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) played a role in both match victories on the women's side for Brandywine. Zahran dropped the first set of her top-flight singles match, but rallied to win the next two by scores of 6-2, 10-6, to earn the victory. Earlier in the day, Zahran teamed with Jackie Capers (Enola, Pa./Commonwealth Charter Academy) to win No. 1 doubles by an 8-6 count.

Brandywine's men eased to their second victory of the weekend by winning three doubles matches and five singles bouts.

Joe Braud (Moseley, Va./Cosby) did not concede a point during his singles match, sweeping 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, after combining with Raj Mamidala (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) to win 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Mamidala was also a straight-set winner during his fourth-flight singles bout, winning 6-4, 6-3

Zach Champine (Coto de Caza, Calif./Jserra Catholic) and Alexander Michael (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) both earned straight-set wins during the singles round. Champine was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 1, while Michael claimed a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 5. The duo combined to win their top-flight doubles match 8-0.

Matteo Cousineau (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) won his third-flight singles match in three sets. He won the opening frame 6-2 and rallied to win the third 10-6 after dropping the second set 4-6. Cousineau and Aggam Khurana (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) were 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles.

Brandywine will be on the road for the first time this fall on Sunday, Oct. 1 when the Lions visit Susquehanna at 1:00 PM.
