Brandywine Falls In First Road Match

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams were defeated by Susquehanna during the teams' first road matches of the fall on Sunday afternoon. The men dropped a 6-3 decision, while the women's team fell 7-2.

Zach Champine (Coto de Caza, Calif./Jserra Catholic) and Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) both earned a pair of victories to lead the Lions.

Champine eased to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles and paired with Alexander Michael (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while Zahran earned a top-flight singles win by scores of 6-4, 7-5 and teamed with Jackie Capers (Enola, Pa./Commonwealth Charter Academy) to claim a top-flight doubles victory by an 8-6 count.

Accounting for the third match victory on the men's side was Joe Braud (Moseley, Va./Cosby). Braud dropped his first set 2-6, but rallied to claim the final two frames 6-4, 7-5 to record a triumph at No. 2 singles.

Brandywine will close out the fall portion of its season Saturday at Eastern beginning at 11:00 AM.
