Brandywine Begins Spring Slate At Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams opened their spring seasons Sunday morning, falling at Elizabethtown College. The Lions' men's squad was downed 7-2, while the Brandywine women dropped an 8-1 decision.

Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was a straight-set winner during her No. 1 singles match. She claimed a victory by a count of 6-4, 6-2.

Zahran teamed with Jackie Capers (Enola, Pa./Commonwealth Charter Academy) to win five points during their top-flight doubles bout before falling 8-5. Elizabeth Keeper (Bear, Del./Appoquinimink) earned a pair of points at No. 3 singles, but fell 6-1, 6-1.

On the men's side, Brandywine recorded a pair of singles triumphs.

Joe Braud (Moseley, Va./Cosby) tallied a three-set victory at No. 1. He earned the first set 7-6 and bounced back after dropping the second frame by the same count to claim a 10-3 triumph during the third and final set.

Aggam Khurana (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) eased to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles to account for the Lions' second win. Khurana also paired with John Stine (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) to win five points at No. 3 doubles before falling 8-5. Stine nearly claimed a triumph at No. 5 singles, but was edged in the deciding set by Isaac Reichenbach. Stein won the opening frame 6-3 and fell 7-5 during the second before Reichenbach edged him 14-12 in the final frame.

Brandywine returns to action on Wednesday, March 13 as the Lions make the short trip to Neumann for a 3:30 PM match.
