DeSales Tops Brandywine In Sunday Matinee

MEDIA, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams dropped Sunday matches to DeSales University as the Brandywine men were defeated 9-0 and the Lion women dropped a 6-1 home decision.

Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was the lone winner on the day for the Lions, claiming her top-flight singles match. Zahran won in straight sets by scores of 6-0, 6-3. She also teamed with Jackie Capers (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) to win five points during their No. 1 doubles match, but the duo was topped 8-5.

On the men's side, Raj Mamidala (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) went the distance during his No. 5 singles match. After Reece Stein won the opening frame 6-2, Mamidala evened the match by taking the second set 7-6; however, Stein rallied to win the final set, a thrilling 12-10 decision, to claim a point for DeSales.

Alexander Michael (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown) won eight games at No. 2 singles, but fell 2-6, 6-7, while Aggam Khurana (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and John Stine (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) both won five games during singles action before falling in straight sets.

The Brandywine men host Williamson Tuesday at 3:30 PM, while the Lion women close out the regular season Saturday at home against Albright beginning at 11:30 AM.
