Brandywine Cruises To Victory Over Central Penn

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Six players scored in double figures, led by a 16-point effort from Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro), as the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team rolled to a 94-53 non-league victory over Central Penn College at the Brandywine Athletic Center on Tuesday night.

Encarnacion drained 7-of-15 shots from the field and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds. Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and younger sister, Chrissy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), both tallied 13 points, while Stacey MacArthur (Newtown Square, Pa./Delco Christian) and Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) both chipped in with 10 points.

Munro turned in an all-around performance with seven assists, six rebounds and six steals for Brandywine, which forced 26 Central Penn turnovers and shot a season-high 46 percent (41-89) from the field.

Jilly Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Jessy Gledhill both dished out three assists, while Alyssa Abbonizio (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) pulled down seven rebounds. The Lions held a 50-38 advantage on the glass and scored 38 points in the paint, compared to 24 for the Knights.

All 11 Lions who saw action recorded at least two points and Brandywine received 49 points from its reserves, while committing just 11 turnovers. All 53 points scored by Central Penn came from its starters.

Brandywine scored 13 of the game's first 15 points and extended its lead to 25-9 at the midway point of the first half behind eight-straight points from Chrissy Gledhill.

Central Penn got as close as 14 points with 5:23 left in the first half before MacArthur drained a three and Colleen Kennedy (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) later sank a jumper to push the Lions' lead to 21. Kennedy's basket with 19 seconds left sent Brandywine into halftime with a 54-30 edge.

Brandywine opened the second half with a 13-2 surge, receiving four points each from Munro, MacArthur and Jessy Gledhill, and wouldn't be challenged by Central Penn the rest of the way.

Nicole Schmidhamer produced 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Marlin Sanchez added 11 points for Central Penn, which connected on 37 percent of its field goal attempts.

Brandywine (4-3, 3-0 PSUAC) looks to extend its winning streak to three games on Wednesday when it visits Bryn Mawr at 7:00 pm.
