Balanced Effort Lifts Brandywine To 73-43 Victory At Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania -- Six players netted at least eight points as the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team defeated Bryn Mawr, a member of NCAA Division III, 73-43 on Wednesday night.

The Lions (5-3, 3-0 PSUAC) scored the game's first nine points, holding the Owls (0-7) scoreless until the 12:54 mark.

Alyssa Abbonizio's (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) layup pushed the Lions' lead to 12 halfway through the first stanza, but Bryn Mawr steadily chipped away, cutting Brandywine's lead to just  six points following Ashton Dwyer's three-pointer with 2:01 left in the half.

After Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) made the score 29-18 with a free throw, Dwyer netted six-straight points as BMC closed within five. Jilly Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) answered with a jumper for the Lions, who took a 31-24 lead into the half.

Brandywine used a 7-0 spurt, capped off by three consecutive free throws from Stacey MacArthur (Newtown Square, Pa./Delco Christian) to push the lead back to double figures early in the second half.

The Lions continued to extend their lead as a MacArthur bucket made the score 44-26 with 16:05 to play, and minutes later, Jilly Gledhill and Chrissy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) combined for six consecutive points to make the advantage 23.

Brandywine led by as many as 34 points following Chrissy Gledhill's triple with four minutes remaining before settling for the 30-point victory.

Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) and Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) both netted 10 points to lead the Lions, who shot 41 percent (26-63) from the field.

Abbonizio and Jessy Gledhill both added nine points, while Jilly Gledhill and MacArthur each added eight.

Munto topped the team with five rebounds and tied for the team lead with Encarnacion and Jessy Gledhill by collecting three steals. Brandywine forced 39 turnovers, converting the Owls' miscues into 36 points.

Bryn Mawr, which held a 37-34 edge on the boards, received a game-high 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting from Dwyer.

Brandywine hosts Briarcliffe (N.Y.) on Friday at 5:00 pm.
