Brandywine Defense Dominates In Rout Of Cedar Crest

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Penn State Brandywine forced 32 Cedar Crest turnovers and limited the Falcons to 31 percent shooting en route to an emphatic 83-43 non-conference women's basketball victory, the fifth consecutive for the Lions, Saturday night at the Brandywine Athletic Center.

Brandywine (7-3) turned the Falcons' 32 miscues into 38 points, while receiving 29 points from its reserves and shooting 44 percent from the field (32-73).

Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro), Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and Stacey MacArthur (Newtown Square, Pa./Delco Christian) combined to score the first 15 points of the game as the Lions held the Falcons scoreless during the opening four minutes.

Eight minutes later, Hinton converted back-to-back three-point plays and Encarnacion followed with a layup, giving Brandywine a 31-6 lead, its largest of the first half. Taylor Osley sank a pair of free throws to bring Cedar Crest within 15, but Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) answered with a bucket with 47 seconds left before halftime to give Brandywine a 43-26 lead at the break.

The Lions continued to extend their lead early in the second stanza as Gledhill and MacArthur connected on consecutive three-pointers to give Brandywine a 54-31 edge. A pair of free throws from Hinton pushed the lead to 30 for the first time with 8:47 to play and the Lions would lead by as many as 42 points following Myeisha Matos' (Philadelphia, Pa./JW Hallahan Catholic) two free throws with 4:49 left in regulation before settling for the 40-point victory.

Hinton and MacArthur both netted 14 points to lead all scorers. Hinton was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe, while MacArthur connected on a trio of three-pointers and collected six steals. Matos and Hinton both recorded four thefts.

Encarnacion added 12 points, while Gledhill and Matos both tallied nine and Chelsea Dent (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) recorded eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Cedar Crest received 16 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, from Breonna Lewis.

The Lions return to action Monday night against Valley Forge with tip-off slated for 5:00 pm.
