Second-Half Surge Sparks Brandywine To Sweep Of Mont Alto

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine outscored Penn State Mont Alto 55-29 over the final 20 minutes as the Lions completed a season sweep of Mont Alto on Tuesday night following a convincing 92-70 home triumph.

Seventeen days after pouring in a career-high 36 points at Mont Alto in an 88-72 win, Terrence Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Communications Tech) scored 26 points in 28 minutes of action to pace the offensive effort. He made 9-of-15 shots from the field, including four three-pointers, and also collected four steals.

Isiah Cook (Reading, Pa./Reading) buried three triples en route to a 19-point showing, while Donte Winfield (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz) added 17 points (8-8 FT) and dished out seven assists. Cook and Isaiah Lester (Morton, Pa./Ridley) both grabbed four steals and Dwayne Coleman (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley Charter) just missed a double-double with eight points and 10 boards.

Brandywine led for the first 13 minutes of the first half, but an 11-0 Mont Alto run pushed the visitors in front, 27-21. The Lions closed within one following two free throws from Brown at the 3:02 mark; however, Ryan Hege and Jalon Smith combined to score eight points over the final 2:30 for Mont Alto to send the guests into intermission with a 41-37 lead.

Brandywine took over early in the second half as Cook's basket tied the score at 41-41 less than one minute into the period and Winfield followed with a triple 35 seconds later that put the Lions on top 44-43.

The Lions pulled away, outscoring Mont Alto 24-7 during the next 10 minutes to claim a 68-52 edge. Brown sparked the run with a pair of triples, while Winfield and Lester both contributed a pair of buckets and Coleman capped the surge with back-to-back layups.

Mont Alto closed within 12 points with 7:32 remaining on the clock, but Winfield knocked down six-straight free throws and Cook added two shots from the charity stripe to up the margin to 20 points. The visitors would not challenge Brandywine the rest of the way.

Brandywine held a 48-33 edge on the boards, grabbing 17 offensive rebounds, while forcing 23 Mont Alto turnovers. The Lions shot nearly 48 percent from the field and buried 10-of-27 attempts from beyond the arc.

Brandywine (15-6, 10-2 PSUAC) plays host to Penn State Hazleton on Friday at 8:00 pm looking for its fifth-straight win.
