Brandywine Caps Regular Season With Victory Over GA

MEDIA, Pa. -- Cashae Hinton (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) produced her second double-double in the last three games as the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team capped off its regular season in style with a 91-86 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny on Monday afternoon.

Hinton scored 13 of her 15 points at the free throw line and set a career high with 12 assists, while also collecting six steals.

Lauren Munro (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) paced four Brandywine scorers in double figures with 17 points. Olivia Encarnacion (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added 15 points and Jessy Gledhill (Secane, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) notched 14 points and seven rebounds.

Brandywine (17-8, 10-4 PSUAC) will not have long to prepare for the PSUAC Tournament as the fifth-seeded Lions will travel to fourth-seeded Penn State Fayette Wednesday night for a quarterfinal matchup at 6:00 pm. Fayette took the only regular-season meeting, an 82-71 home victory on January 16.

Brandywine got off to a quick start, leading 22-11 after one quarter and extended the lead to 30-13 following a Munro layup at the 7:57 mark of the second stanza.

However, Brandywine went cold, scoring just one basket over the final 5:43 of the half as Greater Allegheny used a 16-3 run to make the score 37-34 at the break.

Melanie Kempf (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) knocked down a jumper and followed with a three-pointer as part of a 9-0 Lions' spurt that pushed the lead back to double figures midway through the third quarter and Brandwine's advantage would reach as many as 16 points during the early stages of the final stanza.

GA battled back to within four with 6:19 to play, but Gledhill scored five-straight points, starting an 11-2 surge and Hinton knocked down nine free throws during the final minute to help Brandywine hold on for the victory.

Brandywine shot 43 percent from the field and committed just 13 turnovers, while GA turned the ball over 30 times, leading to 47 Brandywine points.
