Brandywine Headed To Fayette Wednesday For PSUAC Quarterfinals

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- Fifth-seeded Penn State Brandywine will travel to fourth-seeded Penn State Fayette when it begins its PSUAC Women's Basketball Championship run on Wednesday evening in the tournament quarterfinals.

Brandywine, which would advance to its 10th consecutive PSUAC semifinal with a victory, opens the tournament on the road for the first time in over six years after winning its final five regular-season games, finishing fifth in the league standings with a 10-4 record.

The Lions have met Fayette three times during the last five PSUAC Tournaments, with Brandywine claiming victories in two of those games, including the most recent meeting, an 86-84 triumph in 2013-14. Senior Lauren Munro posted a 17-point, 13-rebound double-double in that game.

Munro leads Brandywine in rebounding and adds 10.8 points per game, shooting a league-best 53 percent from the field, while Olivia Encarnacion tops the team in scoring at 12.2 points per outing. Point guard Cashae Hinton is the PSUAC's leader in assists and steals per game and is the third Lion to average double-figure scoring at 10.6 points per game.

When the teams met during the regular season, Fayette earned an 82-71 home victory as all five of its starters scored in double figures. Taylor Smith ranks second in the conference in rebounding (10.7 rpg) and 12th in scoring (13.5 ppg).

The winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal will visit top-seeded and three-time defending PSUAC champion Beaver on Saturday night.

The second quarterfinal matchup features No. 3 Lehigh Valley hosting No. 6 Wilkes Barre. The winner of that contest will travel to No. 2 Hazleton on Saturday. Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center will be the host site for the PSUAC Men's and Women's Championships next Tuesday night.
