Brandywine Holds Off Fayette For 67-62 Triumph

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine faced a three-point deficit entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Penn State Fayette 19-11 during the final 10 minutes to claim a 67-62 Penn State University Athletic Conference women's basketball victory on Friday night.

Brandywine started slow, trailing 11-2 through five minutes, but Amanda Floyd (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) provided a three-point play and Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) sparked the offense with eight-straight points, including a pair of three-pointers, and Brandywine climbed within two after one period.

The Lions took their first lead of the night with back-to-back layups from Kiara Koger (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) and Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) early in the second period. Floyd netted the Lions' next 10 points as the margin swelled to 31-21 by the 5:54 mark. Consecutive baskets by Koger pushed the lead as large as 12 points before Fayette cut into its deficit by outscoring the Lions 11-6 over the final four minutes to get within 41-34 at the break.

Brandywine went cold from the field during the third quarter, making just one field goal, and Fayette took advantage as the visitors held a 51-48 lead entering the final period.

Steals by Watson and Koger led to a pair of fast-break layups and Floyd followed with a lay-in of her own, giving Brandywine a 54-51 edge early in the final quarter.

Fayette rallied to tie the score at 55-all; however, buckets by Floyd and Erin Michael (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) during the next 60 seconds gave Brandywine the lead for good. Fayette drew as close as one point down on two occasions, but a triple by Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) with 1:15 to go and free throws from Allen and Watson during the final 10 seconds put the game away.

Floyd led three double-figure scorers with 16 points, while Diawara knocked down a trio of three-pointers and netted 13 points. Koger added an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double, along with six assists and two steals. Floyd and Watson both tallied three thefts.

Brandywine (5-4, 4-2 PSUAC) is right back in action Saturday afternoon against Penn State Beaver at 4:00 PM.
