Lions Fall 97-80 At DuBois

DUBOIS, Pa. -- Tristan Pierce poured in 33 points as Penn State DuBois outlasted Penn State Brandywine 97-80 in PSUAC men's basketball on Friday night.

Brandywine, playing its first league game in over one month, trailed by as many as 10 points during the opening 20 minutes before an 8-0 spurt, capped off by back-to-back buckets from Isaiah Lester (Morton, Pa./Ridley) gave the Lions their first lead at 29-27.

The lead changed hands four more times before Adam Szklanka buried a three-pointer at the buzzer, sending DuBois into the locker room with a three-point, halftime edge.

Anthony Costa (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) nailed a triple to open the scoring in the second half and Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) and Marcus Turner (Claymont, Del./Chichester) sank two-straight shots as Brandywine climbed back into the lead.

However, the Lions' lead would be short-lived as Kyle Mills netted five consecutive points, including the go-ahead bucket at the 15:35 mark, part of a 12-0 surge for the hosts.

Terrance Quinn's (Havertown, Pa./Radnor) triple brought Brandywine within five with 12:15 to play, but Pierce answered with consecutive three-pointers and DuBois' lead would not dip below six the rest of the way.

Spencer posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Naifes Smalls (Philadelphia, Pa./PE&T Charter) notched a team-high 22 points. Quinn (12) and Lester (10) combined for 22 of Brandywine's 46 points from its reserves.

Brandywine (4-10, 3-3 PSUAC) completes its weekend trip in western Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon at Penn State Fayette (3:00 pm).
