Valley Forge Edges Past Brandywine 77-73

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine clawed back from 18 points down in the second half, but Valley Forge's lead proved to be too much to overcome as the Lions were edged 77-73 on Thursday night.

Brandywine (4-13, 3-5 PSUAC) trailed by just one point at halftime at 31-30, but Valley Forge used an 18-5 run spanning 7:25 to open up its largest lead at 18 points.

Terrance Quinn (Havertown, Pa./Radnor) helped Brandywine climb back into the game as he knocked down a pair of threes during an 8-0 stretch for the Lions and then cut the deficit to single digits with a layup at the 6:16 mark.

Isaiah Lester's (Morton, Pa./Ridley) three-pointer made the score 69-64 with 1:59 remaining in regulation and another Lester triple 77 seconds later trimmed Valley Forge's lead to four.

Brandywine would get as close as four three more times during the final minute, but each time Valley Forge answered with a pair of free throws, knocking down six straight during the last 26 seconds to seal the victory.

Quinn was the lone Lion to produce a double-figure scoring output with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting. He connected on all five of his free throw attempts and drained three triples. Lester added eight points, while Cyrie Spencer (Sharon Hill, Pa./Academy Park) collected nine points and nine rebounds and Kenneth Murphy (Philadelphia, Pa./George Washington Carver) handed out five assists.

Brandywine's home Sunday game versus Penn State Greater Allegheny has been postponed due to the snow storm expected to hit the area this weekend. The Lions return to action on January 29th with a home conference game against Penn State Hazleton beginning at 8:00 pm.
