Brandywine Sweeps Gwynedd Mercy For First Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's tennis team got in the win column for the first time this spring as the Lions posted a 9-0 sweep of Gwynedd Mercy at home on Saturday afternoon.

During doubles action, Tanuj Gaikwad (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and Santiago Martinez (Bogota, Colombia/Colegio Gran Bretana) eased to an 8-2 triumph at No. 1, while Luke DeAngelis (Downingtown, Pa./Henderson) and Tejas Agarwal (Bangalore, India/Bangalore North) combined for an 8-2 victory at No. 2.

Gaikwad controlled his top-flight singles match, winning 6-1, 6-0, as did Martinez, who won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2.

Walidad Ghuman (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) swept a pair of 6-0 frames to win his No. 3 singles bout, while DeAngelis completed the Lions' sweep by earning a 6-2, 7-5 triumph at No. 4.

Brandywine claimed the third doubles match, plus a pair of singles matches by forfeit.

Brandywine (1-3) matches up again with Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday, this time on the road, beginning at 4:00 PM.
