DeRosa, Segich Earn National Player Of The Week Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- Following a four-game sweep of Penn State Scranton, Penn State Brandywine softball players Grace DeRosa (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) and Arianna Segich (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) landed national player of the week honors from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association on Tuesday. DeRosa was named pitcher of the week, while Segich claimed the hitter of the week award.

DeRosa threw the third no-hitter in Brandywine softball history, pitching the first four innings on Friday before completing the game, which was suspended due to darkness, on Saturday afternoon. She struck out five and allowed only one base runner. Hours later, DeRosa tossed a second complete-game shutout against Scranton and fanned a season-high seven hitters in 5.0 innings.

The USCAA leader in shutouts this spring, DeRosa has blanked three opponents in six starts. She owns a 3-3 record with a 3.66 earned-run average and a team-high 21 strikeouts.

Segich extended her hitting streak to eight-straight games and batted .750 (9-12) during the week. She reached base in 12 of her 15 plate appearances, including 10-straight appearances during the final three games of the series, while also scoring 10 runs. She extended her USCAA-leading stolen base total to 20 this spring by swiping 13 bags in 13 attempts, including a program-record six in one game.

In addition to topping the nation in stolen bases, Segich ranks fifth in on-base percentage (.591), sixth in batting average (.547) and seventh in both hits (20) and runs scored (13).

Brandywine (6-6) opens a four-game weekend series with Penn State Schuylkill on Friday at 3:00 pm at Maple Zone.
